Advent: God With Us

I have listened to God With Us from Folk Angel‘s album, Comfort & Joy – Christmas Songs Vol. 3, countless times over the past few weeks. It proved to be particularly impactful as I have prepared to preach on a couple of occasions during Advent.

In the video below (featuring God With Us from Comfort & Joy – Christmas Songs Vol. 3), Isaac Wimberley powerfully and accurately captures the Biblical message and tone of the Advent season.

Watch it, listen to it, and allow your sense of yearning, longing, and anticipation grow as you prepare to celebrate Christ’s first coming and as you await his second.

On a side note, I highly recommend this album. Great stuff! Buy it HERE.

Video: Penn State / Nebraska Pre-Game Prayer

In case you missed it, here is a video of Coach Ron Brown’s prayer before the Nebraska/Penn State football game on Saturday.

Also, the Daily Nebraskan published a number of letters from members of the Penn State community expressing their thanks and appreciation for the support, sportsmanship, and respect showed by Husker fans and players this weekend. Husker fan or not, these letters are definitely worth a read.

The Execution of Ideas

It has never been especially difficult for me to develop new ideas. Having an idea is easy. Execution – now that’s the hard part.

As as young professional, I was blessed to have a boss who challenged me not to settle for being a mere “ideas guy.” Having a good idea wasn’t good enough. He challenged me to implement my ideas, to execute. It’s one thing to have an idea. It’s quite another to have an idea, implement the idea, see it through to completion, and witness first-hand its impact.

In this video, recently posted on the99percent.com, several attendees of the 2011 99% Conference discuss this process of putting their ideas own into action.  I found it to be helpful to hear others’ insights into the execution of ideas.  I hope it is helpful to you, too.

How often do you successfully execute your ideas?  What advice would you give one who desires to implement his or her ideas more often and more effectively?

Martin Bashir on His Interview with Rob Bell

Chances are you’ve heard plenty about Rob Bell’s new, controversial book, Love Wins: A Book About Heaven, Hell, and the Fate of Every Person Who Has Ever Lived.  You’ve probably also seen the YouTube video of Bell’s “uncomfortable” interview with MSNBC’s Martin Bashir, which has over 260 thousand views one week after being posted.  If you haven’t had a chance to watch the interview, you can check it out below.

This has to be one of the toughest interviews I’ve ever seen. I found it difficult to avoid squirming around in my own chair while I watched. Some would argue, however, that the interview was too tough or even unfair. Regardless of where you fall on the nature of the interview, it is clear that Bashir understands the dangerous implications of Bell’s new book.

Since the above interview originally aired, Martin Bashir appeared on the Paul Edwards Program and answered questions about his conversation with Bell.  This is a absolutely worth the time to watch – especially for those who might have been put off by Bashir’s aggressive questions.

The Last Text: AT&T Documentary Outlines the Dangers of Texting While Driving

What do you think about AT&T’s new 11-minute texting-while-driving documentary?

It is well done, in my opinion. Definitely worth watching and encouraging loved ones (especially high school students and twenty somethings) to watch as well. The best part is that a good portion of it consists of teens talking to teens.

The question remains, however, just how effective will the documentary be with teens? Will they listen? Of course, it must be stated that teens aren’t the only offenders, though they are the most inexperienced drivers and the move prevalent texters.

Hopefully “The Last Text” and other campaigns will be effective in curbing this growing problem.

Have you ever texted, tweeted, emailed, or updated your Facebook status while driving?
